Are Rims the Same as Tires?

Rims and tires are often used interchangeably, but they are actually two distinct components that make up the complete wheel assembly of a vehicle. Rims, also known as wheel rims or wheels, are the outer circular metal components that provide structural support for the tire and attach to the hub of the vehicle. Tires, on the other hand, are the rubber components that encase the rims, make direct contact with the road, provide traction, absorb shocks, and contribute to the overall handling and performance of the vehicle. Wheels refer to the complete assembly of the rim and tire together. Therefore, upgrading or changing the "wheels" usually means replacing both the rims and tires as a complete unit.
